Day 5 -Adriana's visit to the orphanage

After we went to buy the washing machine we went to a museum and then off to the orphanage. When we walked into the gate of the orphanage there was a huge, red banner that said, "Welcome home Qing le" and the assistant orphanage director was there to greet her. Adriana was then able to see her file from when she was in the orphanage. She saw pictures of herself when she was only 2 days old. She was so small. We got to walk around and see a bit of the inside of the orphanage. They took us to the room where Adriana stayed when she was a little baby. There were about seven babies under the age of 6 months in that room. They were so cute. We wanted to take them all home. Adriana walked around the room and looked at and cooed at the babies and one baby smiled at her so she stopped and took her hand. Then the baby would not let go of Adriana's hand. Adriana just loved this room. It was really bright and cheerful. Then the orphanage director took us out to lunch at a wonderful restaurant. It was the best meal we have had in China yet. Alphonse really enjoyed the Peking Duck. The orphanage assistant director and the lady who looks after the finances were wonderful women. You could tell how much they cared about having Adriana come back to visit. They commented several times on how well she was eating and were pleased that Adriana was eating and enjoying the dishes from Nanchang. They genuinely enjoyed their visit with her. When she first met the director Adriana was quite withdrawn but as time passed she grew much more comfortable with them and was her usual social self. They asked that we send more pictures of her and letters on how she is doing and also gave her a beautiful bamboo book on the Teng Wang Pavilion that we visited yesterday. It was a great visit and by this time Adriana was beginning to feel like a local celebrity.
